What the research tells us

What the evidence says

Each summary sticks to what the cited source studied and found.

DASH dietary pattern and serum uric acid

How strong the evidence is
Moderate
What kind of study it is
Systematic review/meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

What the study found

A meta-analysis of four DASH randomized trials involving 590 participants found an approximately 0.25 mg/dL reduction in serum uric acid after at least four weeks.

Limitations

  • Outcome is serum uric acid, not gout flare prevention or disease remission.
  • Do not claim DASH treats or cures gout.

What this says about long-term health

This study did not report a long-term health outcome.

Sources

Tart cherries and uric acid/gout

How strong the evidence is
Limited / emerging
What kind of study it is
Systematic review plus meta-analysis of randomized trials

What the study found

Cherry research suggests a possible modest reduction in serum uric acid and possible association with fewer gout attacks, but the evidence base is small and heterogeneous.

Limitations

  • Recent RCT meta-analysis included only four randomized trials.
  • Clinical findings have been inconsistent.
  • Do not claim cherries prevent or treat gout.
  • Do not extrapolate serum uric acid changes to long-term clinical outcomes.

What this says about long-term health
